Ather 450X Series 1 Electric Scooter Launched

  • Features a new black shade with red accents.
  • The Series 1 is India’s first scooter to feature translucent body panels.
  • Even the TFT instrument console gets red accents.
  • Ather will offer one-year free service on the special edition scooter.

The Ather 450X in our opinion is the best electric scooter on sale in the Indian market. I had ridden the scooter earlier this year and was thoroughly impressed by its performance, features and tech. While the stock Ather 450X is a striking-looking scooter, the boffins at Ather felt that they could do better and have unveiled the new Ather 450X Series 1. The new electric scooter is a limited run production offering and will be only available to customers who had pre-ordered the 450X before its official launch. While Ather hasn't specified the exact production number, it did mention it to be around a couple of thousand units.

So what makes the Series 1 special? The first thing that you will notice is the new glossy black paint (the standard variant gets grey, white and mint green). It also gets red accents on the apron, alloy wheels, monoshock, instrument console and the trellis frame, a neat touch in our opinion. However, the pièce de résistance are the translucent rear body panels that give you a peek of the beautifully engineered aluminium chassis. Ather claims that it’s the first Indian OEM to offer tinted translucent panels.

When we had first seen the chassis of the scooter a few years back, we were impressed by the manner in which the engineers and designers had managed to combine form and function. At that time we had commented that it’s a shame that many people wouldn’t be able to appreciate its beauty, but the translucent panels take care of that. If you’re wondering that the underseat storage space is also translucent, that’s not the case as only the frame is visible. The storage tub panel isn’t translucent.

The Ather Series 1 will cost the same as the standard unit i.e. Rs 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including GST & FAME II subsidy). Ather also announced that deliveries for its premium electric scooter will commence in November and the delay has been owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also has plans to expand its operation in new cities.

Also read: Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC: First Ride Review   While every other bike manufacturer seems to be coming up with its own vision of what a neo-retro scrambler should look like, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC has stuck to its guns by staying as close to the original British scramblers of yore as possible. Honda HNess Cruiser India Launch Tomorrow

Honda is all set to launch its first small-capacity retro motorcycle tomorrow. The recent trademark images suggest that the upcoming motorcycle might be called H’Ness, and cost around Rs 1.95 lakh (ex-showroom). There were rumours about the upcoming bike being the Honda Rebel 300. However, going by the recently-released teaser of the exhaust note , it is likely to pack an old-school air-cooled long-stroke fuel-injected motor displacing somewhere around 350-400cc. That’s a complete departure from the single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine in the Rebel. Expect plenty of low-end torque accompanied by the traditional Honda-levels of refinement in the upcoming bike.  For representation The Honda H'Ness is expected to come with the same roadster-like design language as the Honda CB1100 EX. It is likely to feature a traditional front fork, twin rear shock absorbers and disc brake on both ends with ABS as standard. For an added retro appeal, expect it to use spoke wheels with tubed
