Aprilia Tuono V4 X Launched With 220PS WSBK-spec Parts And Winglets

Aprilia-Tuono-V4-X-hi-res-01

There was a time when the Aprilia Tuono reigned supreme as the king of the nakeds. But recent pretenders to the throne like the Ducati Streetfighter V4 and the KTM 1290 Super Duke R have moved the goalposts in the supernaked segment. Aprilia has now responded with this: the ludicrous Tuono V4 X.

The dichotomy of the retro 2006 Bol d’Or livery and the cutting-edge MotoGP-inspired winglets is rather interesting. Those aerodynamic appendages are there for good reason because the Tuono V4 X uses the 1,077cc V4 engine from the RSV4 1100 Factory along with a full-titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, all powering a package that weighs just 166kg (dry).

Aprilia-Tuono-V4-X-hi-res-29All the weight saving is thanks to billet aluminium control levers, carbon-fibre bodywork, and forged magnesium wheels from Marchesini. Oh, did we forget to mention the power figure? That explosive motor manages a CBR1000RR-R rivalling 220PS! All that firepower is kept in check with an IMU-assisted electronics package and top-spec cycle parts.

Aprilia-Tuono-V4-X-hi-res-33When you’re done torturing your core muscles and want to bring the pace back down to something a little more sedate, you can rely on nickel-plated Brembo GP4 calipers biting on WSBK-spec Brembo T-Drive discs. Springers are an electronic semi-active affair from Gabriel. Oh come on, why are you still reading? You know it’s actually Ohlins.

Aprilia-Tuono-V4-X-hi-res-17Since this is a track-only machine with no lights, indicators or mirrors, it can also roll on Pirelli Superbike slicks (obviously!) Unfortunately, only 10 of these monstrous machines will be made available to the public. But with an equally monstrous price tag of €34,900 (Rs 30.55 lakh), we doubt they’d be able to find too many buyers anyway.

Breaking Down BS6 Carburettors And Fuel Injection Explained

It’s now been nearly 4 months since BS6 emission norms came into effect, and almost all the bikes and scooters sold in India have been updated to meet the stricter regulations. Most recent among these to receive the updates was the TVS Scooty Zest BS6 , which was launched a couple of days ago at Rs 58,640. Like all the BS6 updates we’ve seen so far, this new version is more expensive than its BS4 predecessor, by around Rs 6,000 in this case. And the biggest reason behind these price hikes is the addition of a fuel-injection system. So what exactly is it? And how did bikes work before fuel-injection came into the picture? Let’s take a look: To understand why a fuel-injection (FI) system is needed, we first need to understand its predecessor: the carburettor. Both FI and carburettors do the same job: mixing air and fuel in the correct proportions before it’s sent into the engine. The diagram above shows a carburettor’s layout. Air enters at the top, flows through a narrow con...

Like most of its portfolio, it is available in two variants. Here’s a detailed explanation of how different the features are in DLX and DLX Pro. Aesthetics: The Honda H’Ness CB350 DLX Pro variant gets a more premium, retro-looking dual-tone colour scheme on the fuel tank. The matte black and grey colour variant comes with a beige seat cover whereas the other two colour variants get a black one. Of these three, the blue is our favourite as it echoes the nostalgic blue and white scheme of its forefather, the Honda CB350 from 1970. On the other hand, the base DLX variant comes only in si...
